ABOUT US
PERIODONTAL DISEASE
If your gums are unusually tender and red or if flossing causes your gums to swell and bleed, you may be suffering from Periodontal Disease (gum disease).
This is quite common - three out of four adults are diagnosed with periodontal disease each year. Nearly 70 percent of adult tooth loss can be attributed to gum disease. Periodontal disease can be caused be the lack of oral care or it can also be hereditary
Periodontal disease is caused by an excessive build-up of bacterial plaque on the teeth. As the plaque hardens, toxins are released from the bacteria causing the gums (soft tissue) to become irritated. The soft tissue and bone that support the teeth become increasingly damaged with the progression of the disease. If left untreated Periodontal disease can lead to more serious health issues. It has also been linked to heart disease in women.
Gum disease can be controlled if the appropriate treatment measures are taken in a timely manner. When the disease is in its early stages, we typically need only remove plaque and calculus in and around the affected tooth/teeth. However, if the disease is advanced, surgical treatment by the Periodontist may be necessary.
There are many new surgical and non-surgical treatments along with laser therapy that can minimize your downtime and discomfort.

LANAP Therapy
F.A.Q.
What is periodontal disease, and how does it affect my oral health? Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is an infection that affects the gum tissue and bone that support your teeth. It can range from mild gingivitis to more severe periodontitis, which can lead to tooth loss if left untreated. The bacteria that cause periodontal disease can also affect other parts of your body, including your heart and lungs.
What is LANAP, and how does it compare to traditional gum surgery? LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) is a minimally invasive laser treatment for periodontal disease that can be an alternative to traditional gum surgery. It uses a laser to remove infected tissue and promote the growth of healthy tissue, without the need for incisions or sutures. LANAP can result in less pain, swelling, and downtime than traditional gum surgery.
What are dental implants? Dental implants are a permanent tooth replacement option that involves surgically placing a small titanium post into the jawbone to support a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants can improve your oral health, appearance, and function, and they can last for many years with proper care.
Does having untreated periodontal disease effect the rest on my body? Periodontal disease can not only undermine the beauty and health of your smile, but your overall health, as well. Studies have linked gum disease to serious concerns such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, poor pregnancy outcomes, and other health conditions.
Why is my mouth sloughing. A common cause is due to a popular ingredient Sodium lauryl sulfate. Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is a surfactant, which basically means it has an effect on the surfaces it touches. It’s used in a variety of products such as food thickeners, and toothpaste.
